Dear Johns,
Thank you very much for your birthday greetings. Time flies. I am getting old. It was about 40 years ago I was a 20 years old freshman at National Taiwan University in the early November 1965 after 2 months military services in Cheng-Kong-Ling. And, now I am 60 years old.
While I am getting old I see you are growing up and study hard just as what I was 40 years ago. I wish you will clearly know what are your duty to yourself, your families, and your country as what I knew 40 years ago. Then you will be mature enough to fulfill your duties at many different stages of your life. Do not hesitate to search unknows, do not hesitate to ask questions while puzzles in your mind, and do not hesitate to take actions while it is necessary to do something.
Old solidier will never die, but he will fade away in the foreseeable future. He is a wiseman because of secular hardships and life experiences. So, you have to be humble to ask for wisdoms from all of the old solidiers.
And, while you are searching for wisdoms you have to put your eyesight widely enough and farsight far enough. Do not be bothered by the small flowers on the way you go, but look far and high for your future.
It is more than 45 years I encourage myself to do anything just follow the rules as above statements. I forward those statements to you for your reference.
Also, I have an appendix to you. It is the financial statement of our family. You will know I work very hard and thriftily spend the money.
Best Wishes,

Sincerely,
Chi-yuan Tsai, 2005/11/02
